Seriously, from the little I've read about the nature of the thread, it's compelling. When I started the Gorilla Game thread on AOL the bulk of the immediate discussion had to do with recognizing the traits of a gorilla in companies that never, ever could be in gorilla games. A bunch of us drew very strong parallels with the likes of Coke, the international pharmaceuticals, and others with the characteristics of gorillas. I look forward to a fascinating discussion of similar parallels with diamonds in the rough.

Mike, thanks for coming over. I don't know where I'm going to get the time to post to all my favorite Threads! I might have to quit my day job. <g>

To address your question, I'm not sure if mindshare can be a form of discontinuous innovation, but I've been giving a lot of thought to IP (intellectual property) in the espace, and how processes not just products are starting to get patented. If a company can patent protect some very innovative processes, such as the way it aggregates and mines data or something to that effect, they just may be able to lock out competitors from offering a competitive product in their markets.
