Excellent point. "Men kill" is an extreme generalization. On the other hand, in the context, I think it was obvious that it was meant humorously.

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is a popular bumpersticker, that has been parodied widely, e.g., "Guns don't kill people, bullets kill people."

So, "Guns don't kill people, MEN (with a few exceptions) kill people," I would have thought was clearly intended to be a parody, and a joke.

"Women don't fight fair," on the other hand, did not seem to be intended to be a joke.
