ROCHESTER, N.H. and MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 1999-- Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS - news) today announced that Banco de Mexico, Mexico's national Federal Reserve bank, has selected Cabletron's leading ATM SmartSwitch solutions to upgrade its current FDDI network. In addition, Banco de Mexico has deployed Cabletron's industry-leading SmartSwitch Routers (SSR - see Cabletron's August 24, 1999 press release: Gartner Group Reaffirms Market LeaderShip in Layer Three Switching) and its newly announced SmartSwitch Access (SSA), to provide effective traffic segmentation, Quality of Service (QoS), and secure access between remote sites.

Located in Mexico City, Banco de Mexcio required a resilient and secure communications infrastructure, allowing them to communicate quickly and effectively with financial institutions nationwide. Streamlining internal processes was also important, as future plans focused on introducing remote training and videoconferencing between buildings.

Said Dr. Cornelio Robledo, Director of Communications - Banco de Mexico: ``Our decision to upgrade to Cabletron's ATM technology was based around its versatility for voice, video and data.
