Microsoft is already in a position of Reacting to change and not creating it. With 40% of their revenue coming from Office they have every vested interest to defend this while the market changes underneath their feet - This is Gordon Moore's "S" curve - A disruptive force in technology that doesnt allow the previous "gorilla" to react to change or forecast the future since it must maintain the status quo. of course none of this applies to Microsoft as it never applied to CDC, Digital, Wang or IBM.
