Paul,

Good sourcing there!

<"So far, and in its early stages, it is as fast as AMD's Athlon using the SpecINT benchmark but shows far
better performance in SpecFP. ">

So.. maybe they will clean up critical paths and get
Merced to 1 GHz late next year... but will Athlon still
only be at 1 GHz in copper? Will Intel face a bit of
embarassment if Merced and Athlon are neck and neck on int
at the same clock frequency but Athlon is at 1.2 GHz
when Merced is introed and of course Athlon runs the
majority of IA32 binaries *far* faster than Merced... so why bother with Merced? Only so many will want the latest
and greatest over-priced toy. Athlon will be far cheaper.

Very interesting year coming up if nothing else.

Rob
