Mizoguchi says MOF watching forex,to act as
needed

TOKYO, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Japan's Finance Ministry is watching foreign
exchange market movements carefully and will take appropriate steps as
necessary, senior official Zembei Mizoguchi said on Friday.

Asked about dollar/yen movements this morning, Mizoguchi, director-general
of the Ministry of Finance's (MOF) International Bureau, said: ''The market
moves based on various factors. All I can say is that we are watching market movements carefully.''

Mizoguchi added that MOF would consider and take appropriate steps on foreign exchange as necessary.

Regarding how closely MOF is in contact with U.S. authorities, Mizoguchi said they are in contact with
each other ''on a daily, routine basis.''
