Hear Meagan Graham-Hackett, S&P's equity group director of technology research talk about Intel & AMD in an interview with Stan Corker of Emerald Research. It was broadcast this morning and can be replayed at:

Highlights:
-----------

Actually, not much. The subtle things were more interesting to analyze. For instance, it is advertised as Meagan on AMD yet AMD was discussed for only about 3 minutes of the 20 minute broadcast. She also never called AMD's new chip the Athlon, always the K7. Most of the broadcast was Intel this and Intel that. If she is representative of analysts in general, then they are completely blowing-off AMD as a threat, hence Intel's record stock price. As she says in the broadcast, it's all based on past performance: Intel executes, AMD has not.

- Has a buy on Intel, 6-12 month target $90-95, potential for $100.
- Neutral on AMD (Hold) because of past history.
- She thought it was good that AMD hit their speed grade for the "K7" at 650MHz [hmm, didn't they actually exceed their target by 50MHz?].
- AMD has little to loose in battling Intel on price in the low-end.
- She is worried about the transition to .18 and about volume.
- She thinks OEM's want AMD around to counter-balance Intel and provide an alternative [buying from AMD is another story, I think the big Intel OEM's just want to be able to threaten Intel with bailing to AMD to get better deals].
- Thinks AMD will survive [wow, that's comforting].

Gary.
