...In a preliminary proxy statement, Cisco said it wanted the authority to issue 10 billion shares, up from the current limit of 5.4 billion shares. The maker of computer-networking equipment said it needed additional "flexibility" to issue more shares as part of mergers or through stock-option grants. The company had just under 3.3 billion shares outstanding as of July 31, according to the proxy. But Cisco is an aggressive acquirer, having announced 10 acquisitions this year.
