Nihil wrote to Neocon, "Don't try to impose your narrow views on other people." Where is the "IMO" there, where nihil says Neocon's views are "narrow"? Nihil wrote "enjoy, be tolerant, and live a little." He is calling Neocon intolerant there by implication, with no "IMO." In any case, I think IMO's are overrated as exculpations for insult, myself. I don't recall any post of Neocon's since he began posting that is as ad hominem and intentionally insulting, not to mention condescending, as this one of nihil's to Neocon. and you say You don't agree. So what? State why. I did state why I described nihil as intolerant. It was because nihil wrote a personally insulting ("ad hominem") post to someone who disagreed with him about something, a post that was entirely unresponsive to that person's point. Following my words stating why are the words "In my opinion," btw. Jp, as you know, I am not on Neocon's side on the issue. I've have argued the issue at greater length than anyone else has and as heatedly. But Neocon didn't personally insult anyone. It was also brave of him to express his opinion in the face of almost universal disapprobation and ridicule, including from me, I acknowledge; and surely there is no argument that he shouldn't have done so. (I think it is most unfair, BTW, to describe what Neocon did as "equating breast feeding with sexual behavior." It implies that is what he said. In fact, he said something else, and you and I both had the opinion that the sexual-behavior connotation could be extrapolated from what he did say. What he said and what we extrapolate from it are not the same. And you didn't say "imo." One forgets, sometimes.) You say, "And Neo has said some rather off-the-wall things, imo, on this subject." It takes no courage to say things here that are going to be considered just A-okay by everyone. There are a lot of smart people here ready to argue you down and ridicule you and your position. I don't think Neocon's stating what he did, that he thought public nursing was inconsiderate of the feelings of some people, deserved nihil's personally insulting rant. Did Neocon insult anyone personally? In fact, Neocon is characterized by the equableness with which he steadily receives posts that, rather than responding to his arguments, insult him personally. I am not entirely innocent in this matter. I have never eaten really weird food with any special people either. I've eaten weird food, and I've eaten with special people, but never combined the two experiences. It is only nihil, who called Neocon a "pretentious snob," who made clear the "specialness" of his dining companions. (The "tribal chief" I ate worms with (caterpillars, really) I intentionally described as quite unspecial -- "an insufferable drunk" -- to make this point.)
