AOL is a tough one. To focus in on the passage from the book, we need to get our hands around what AOL has that would push it towards Godzilladom.

Again, the key being:

Godzilla: Market leader in a transaction services market with NO proprietary architecture BUT WITH some other mechanism for creating switching costs.

If we think this is worth pursuing, then let the arguments begin. I am not yet convinced that AOL fits this description.
