Charles, here is some oil for your fire, guy. However, I take distance from any judgement myself, I haven't thought it through, yet. I noticed the topic is somewhat different, but some key issues are here as well. Taken from www.telegraph.co.uk, 3-Sep-99. The Sheffield schoolboy boasted that he had had sexual intercourse with 10 other girls - usually when he was drunk - before his latest girlfriend became pregnant. He insisted he wanted to be involved in raising the child and maintained he would be a good father. The teenager admitted that the pregnancy was a mistake, but he was now "getting used to the idea". The pregnancy again highlights Britain's unenviable position as the nation with the highest proportion of teenage mothers in Europe. The girl lives seven miles from the home of another 12-year-old who gave birth last week in the bathroom of her council house in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The boy said yesterday: "I have used condoms and I don't like them. We both understood that not using condoms could get you pregnant, but we carried on. It is the school's responsibility, showing us videos of men and women naked. After all, we are just children. We were told about how babies were made, but I was just interested in the sex part ." The boy was 13 when his girlfriend became pregnant. "She had been talking about having a baby for months. After she started going out with me she was really into babies and that sort of stuff and we talked about what it would be like," he said. His girlfriend lives in a rundown council house with her three sisters and mother, who is separated from their unemployed father. The boy lives 200 yards away with his family. The boy said he had climbed drainpipes to get into the girl's house to have intercourse with her. "I look back on things now and still don't really know how it could happen. But I will be there for the birth if she wants me to be. I am really looking forward to seeing a baby born." The teenager insisted he loved the girl and would stay with her. "We are happy. I love being around kids and I reckon I'll be a good dad," he said. The boy's 33-year-old mother said she was "disgusted" by her son's claims of promiscuity. "He is only a child himself and I want them to get rid of the baby," she said. "This is a nightmare. But what can I do if they won't keep apart? I'm fighting a losing battle." The girl's mother said her daughter had continued to see the boy every day against her wishes. She had taken her to see their family doctor when she suspected they were having sex, but the girl refused to take the Pill and only begrudgingly accepted condoms. The mother said she believed the girl had deliberately become pregnant after telling her: "I want a baby of my own. I want someone to love." The mother has reported her daughter's pregnancy to South Yorkshire police who are investigating whether a crime of statutory rape has been committed by the boy. A child under 13 is not old enough to consent to sex. In England and Wales, around 30 in every 1,000 teenage women give birth; twice that of Germany, three times that of France and six times the Dutch rate. In 1997 around 90,000 teenagers in England became pregnant, with 56,000 going on to have the baby. A spokesman for Sheffield council said last night: "We believe that the guidelines the local education authority has circulated to schools are responsible and provide an age-appropriate programme from ages five to 16. We have always made the point to schools that programmes on sex education need to have regard to moral considerations and the value of family life."
