Especially on UltraSparc. UltraSparc will be all the more appealing when Linux supports SMP. I think though that Linux will always be the little brother to Solaris.

It does...

The kernel is threaded - more granular now more in 6.x+ releases. Based on what I hear it scales quite nicely up to 8 CPU's ; gave MS IIS a nice run for the money in web benchmarks.
