(COMTEX) B: IBM Says It Has First DVI Computer
B: IBM Says It Has First DVI Computer

Sep 03, 1999 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- IBM is claiming to be the
first vendor to offer a PC based entirely on the Digital Video
Interface (DVI), eliminating the SVGA port on the video card and analog
monitor.

The company announced the feat in a joint press conference with Intel
at the Intel Developer Forum.

The Aptiva S Series of Pentium III-based workstations will ship with an
Elsa Graphics video card with the Nvidia Riva TNT2 video chip. It works
with the IBM T55D digital flat-screen, 15-inch XGA monitor. The PC will
be available this month in the price range of $1,999 to $2,199, and the
monitor sells for $1,249.

By eliminating the digital-to-analog conversion required when a
computer drives a normal analog monitor, video performance will be
sharper and video problems, such as flicker, ghosting, and other
degradation problems, will be eliminated.

By the end of the year, IBM expects to put DVI support on its PC 300 GL
and PL series of business workstations, the IntelliStation Pro
workstations, P Series CRT monitors, and T Series of TFT flat-panel
monitors, and offer a DVI adapter for older computers.

LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1999--

Video Extends Program to 2 Hours-Plus and 25 Tracks, With
Multiple Camera Angles and Multimedia Content Featured on DVD

Arista recording artist Sarah McLachlan is set to release a new video edition of "Mirrorball," the first long-form live performance video of her career, the extended-length counterpart to her RIAA double-platinum live album of the same name, now in its 11th week on the Billboard 200 album chart.
The video, which will be available in DVD and conventional VHS formats, has been scheduled for Oct. 12 in-store date.

In contrast with the 14-song, 66-minute audio configuration, the video version of "Mirrorball" contains 25 tracks and more than two hours of live performance. In addition, the DVD will offer multiple camera-angle choices for the viewer, plus a special scrapbook section with photography that spans Sarah's entire career, lyrics, a discography and more.

The tracks on the video that are not heard on the CD/cassette counterpart include: "Intro (Last Dance)," "Plenty," "Witness," "Wait," "Ice," "Mary," "Elsewhere," "Vox," "Into the Fire," and "Credits (Last Dance)."

"Mirrorball" established a chart benchmark for McLachlan as it registered nearly a quarter-million first week Soundscan sales and entered at No. 3, the biggest debut of her career. The album's first commercial Hot 100 track at radio, "I Will Remember You," is in its fourth month on the chart.

The new album is the follow-up to the 7-time-platinum "Surfacing," now in its 111th week on the chart after netting two Grammy awards and four hit singles spanning '97, '98 and '99: "Building a Mystery," "Sweet Surrender," the No. 1 gold single "Adia," and the top 10 "Angel" -- all of which can be heard on "Mirrorball."
