It is not going great guns for Indian democracy either. Every election witnesses a further escalation in violence; candidates are hankering after bullet-proof vests; toughs are hired by every party to "take care of the situation" on election day; and the army is sent out to all parts of the country to try and hold the elections.

The situation is pretty much the same in both the countries. It may be true that Pakistan is a shade worse than India, but it is also true that in ten years, India will descend to the state that Pakistan is in today. I guess it has something to do with the culture of the people who live in the subcontinent. Boy, Churchill was so right!
