Here's a little cable/dsl comparison that was posted to the newsgroups a while back (in case anyone's interested)...

206.253.217.14

For E. - If cable's available to you, go for it. I did and I love it (even if it is expensive).

llater,

Peter I will check in to DSL. I receive more feed back from a friend in the Los Angeles area, concerning cable and DSL. You are right about the clog.

As he put it:

The real problem with cable is there fact that there is no guaranteed bandwidth. It may be fast when you sign up, but, will it last. As more people come online, your bandwidth drops.

DSL is always connected and a minimum bandwidth of 384Kbps is guaranteed. There is no need for a firewall as your connection is private. The security problems posed by cable are not an issue with DSL. Here, Pacbell offers DSL for $39 a month. That includes the Internet service, the DSL modem, network card, splitter, one static IP
address, and two email addresses. Installation costs a one-time fee of $198.

It is a deal that is very hard to beat. Cable just doesn't get it. People are complaining about the quality of their cable TV pictures since the companies have put digital services for computers on the same cable lines. The noise is visible on the TV. It looks sort of like the old coco (Radio Shack Color Computer) when it was hooked up to a TV.

The deeper you look the more facts you find. It is costly but worth looking into.

BTW MindSpring corrected the connection problems in my area.
I like this company.
