Thread: I would like to get a few opinions on Virus software recommendations and systems/procedures that everyone is using.

I support approximately 40 PC (and some Mac) workstations on several NT servers. Only one of the NT servers is directly connected to the net. It is running Imail, a POP mail server, and FTP server software and also Winproxy proxy software to allow the some of the internal users to have access to the net.

1. Should I be running anti virus software on the NT servers? Would it catch infected email messages that arrive at the server or should that be done at the desktop level when each user retrieves their mail?

2. What software is the most unobtrusive and automatic to use at the desktop level? Many of my users are novice users.

3. Being a small company without huge budgets, what is my best choice for initial software, additional licenses and ongoing updates?

Thanks for any comments and responses. I have never really given virus protection it's due focus or time. That is probably because I have never really been burned and I am also fairly careful. I go in stages, I use it off and on on my desktop, but sometimes it seems to really get in the way.

I think its probably time for me to look at it a bit more.
