And the exact reason he's falling on his face at Sprint. He may think he's God of a new order, but he can't wave his wand and eliminate legacy networks.

The issue isn't so much legacy networks, but whether network operators (read - AT&T or MCI-WorldCom) can afford to manage (provision, reroute, write SLA's, install software upgrades, move in new equipment, etc., etc.) for TWO SEPARATE types of networks (voice - time critical AND 'best efforts' IP).

With ATM, you have a convergence of all types of data onto ONE logical network.
