Don't believe me - checkout the hacker FAQ's and web pages that litter the net describing how easy it is to hack into Linux.

Within days of a friend of mine connecting his Linux box to the net via a cable modem hackers broke in (appears through the IMAP server somehow) and installed dummy binaries in place of 'ps', 'ls' and other commands. Some of this can be simply prevented by disabling port services (such as IMAP)but this isn't obvious to your average user.

Cheers
James
