Don't believe for a second that the Intel engineering folks are united against Rambus.

I was at an Intel engineering conference a bit more than a year ago. It was put on not by marketing, not by executives, it was put on by engineers for engineers. Rambus was mentioned frequently and as the timelines rolled out, various memory solutions dropped out of the roadmap until only Rambus was left. It was not so much that they were enamoured with the technology, they were interested in processors, and at various steps along the way the other memory technologies became inadequate for the processors they wanted to build. Those Intel engineers were not only NOT against Rambus, they were glad to have a way out of the memory bottleneck and so have a reason to design a next generation of CPUs.
