Hmm - I'm confused.

From the article zdnet.com

John Chambers is saying:

"It's going to be an IP/ATM world," he predicted. "Circuit switched is dead, and it's just a matter of how quickly convergence takes over" in various parts of the world."

? Circuit switched? Maybe he means Strowger switches. ATM is a connection oriented protocol (is this a variation of circuit switched in his mind?) Most phone calls are "circuit switched" today, even though the information is carried as bytes of data through most of the network.

? Convergence? Doesn't this mean voice, video, and data all on the same network? Can be done best with a network that supports QoS all the way from end-to-end. This means ATM.

Perhaps we need to construct a consistent buzzword dictionary and dedicate it to JC.
