Excellent points SofaSpud, and certainly a statistical correlation does not prove causality.

Your rememberance of your discussion is very much along the hypothesis laid out in the study to explain why the numbers corresponded.

It's one of those things that you're not sure you want to believe (especially if you disagree with allowing abortion) simply because it is difficult to reach a conclusion that something beneficial (decreased crime) is a result of something negative (increased abortion rates).

It certainly passes the gut feeling check. Often times when I see studies I get that immediate, "Bull****", response because it is obvious that the study was designed to support a conclusion, but, this one didn't generate that in me. It seems logical.

I'm even more interested now in digging it up. What I read was just an article about it. I'll have to see if I can turn up some more information and maybe the actual study.
