Well, if you think that we must fight and die for the Taiwanese, then shouldn't more be expected from the Taiwanese?

What do you think of these proposals:

1. A defense surcharge tax be taken out of each Taiwanese paycheck and paid to the US treasury to help defray present and potential defense expenditures on their behalf.

2. A requirement that a certain number of Taiwanese participate in every freedom-fighting action in which the US decides to engage (e.g., Kosovo, Iraq, Bosnia).

3. A requirement that the Taiwanese send volunteers to aid the American Red Cross in its work throughout the nation, and throughout the world.

4. A requirement that US corporations be given free office space in downtown Taipei so that we may more efficiently and economically do business in Southeast Asia.

5. A requirement that Taiwanese be encouraged to donate blood and bone marrow to US hospitals that run low.

If these things were done, I would have much more of a feeling that the relationship with Taiwan is not all 100% US sacrifice.
