Blonder Tongue Puts the Squeeze on Bandwidth at the Private & Wireless Show

OLD BRIDGE, N.J., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (Amex: BDR) a manufacturer of electronics and systems equipment for the
franchised and private cable television industries, will debut QQQT (Quad QPSK/QAM Transcoder) at the Private & Wireless Convention, to be held in Denver,
Colo., August 31-September 2.

The QQQT, a Commercial Quad QPSK/QAM Transcoder, is designed to transcode the 30 MHz wide QPSK modulated satellite signals to a 6 MHz wide QAM
modulated IF signal. This saves up to 80% of precious bandwidth and with QAM, an entire 32 transponder satellite service can be delivered in just 192 MHz of
system bandwidth, as opposed to the 1000 MHz required for QPSK. The QQQT, when used with set-top decoders, is both a bandwidth efficient and
cost-effective way to distribute superior quality digital programming to multiple subscribers. It is an ideal application in satellite based MDU systems where existing
system passives and cabling will not permit the carriage of 2 GHz satellite signals without a rebuild.

At the Convention, the Company will also be showing TWIN STAR, a high-performance L-band fiber distribution product group, including both Fiber Optic
Transmitters and Receivers that are specifically designed for distribution of satellite signals via fiber optic cable. The FILR Series are L-band Fiber Optic Receivers
and the FILT Series are L-band Fiber Optic Transmitters. These products are designed for use in the 950 to 2050 MHz frequency range with single, eight, and
sixteen link optical outputs available.

DPC Link, which provides high speed Internet access to those living outside digital areas with use of Hughes Network Systems DirecPC(TM) service, will also be
featured. DPC Link is a technological breakthrough consisting of a high performance Agile Satellite Converter matched with Individual Subscriber Upconverters. It
also eliminates the need for individual subscribers to own a satellite dish, making it the ideal solution for multiple dwelling unit properties. The DPC Link equipment is
independent to individual subscriber selections regardless of the level of DirecPC service.

Blonder Tongue will also highlight iCentral, a complete Y2K compliant subscriber management system. This system has the ability to remotely control up to 56
headends, eliminate ingress via complete return path management and manage Pay-Per-View events. Multiple "iCentral" units may be networked via Ethernet
connections. The "iCentral" output to multiple headends provides a true dial-up platform for simultaneous connections. The system allows for a multi channel line-up
with multiple time zone management.

At the conference, Bob Palle, Executive Vice President of Blonder Tongue, will be accepting a "Diamond Tier Award." This Readers' Choice award will be
presented to Blonder Tongue for iCentral. Each year Private and Wireless magazine monitors reader responses to new product announcements. The top 10 receive
this prestigious award. From the hundreds of thousands of responses believed to be received, Blonder Tongue's iCentral press release placed in the top 10. The
awards will be presented at the Diamond Tier Luncheon on September 1, 1999 at the Denver Convention Center.
