That market exp. comment was directed towards me. and He is correct.
I think I have figured it out. The A.G. owes the MOB money and if he doesn't talk the market down they are going to break his legs.

Re: "IF I held the view, as a bull, that the Fed manipulated markets to diminish my wealth and observed that some bears asserted that the Fed manipulates the markets to prop up the markets...it would probably bring into question whether either one of us is right."

If you think for one minute that the markets are absolutely 100% free flowing without any influence by the FED as well as other special interest then your 50 years have been spent in a vacuum. I do not think that the FED's manipulation of the markets are totally successful because they are ever changing. But when the FED decides to come out on the days when government information is slightly leaning towards the negative and then add to that negative like on Thursday past, and then stay absent on positive days like Friday then suspicions should be increased of their attempted manipulations!

Just because they are not always successful does not mean they haven't and will not try and keep as much as they can of the masses from becoming independently wealthy. For God sake man why do you suppose they tax and penalize early retirement?

Jim -
more often than not, rantings of conspiracies, political rhetoric, et al, are specious, i.e., they are only plausible at the surface but actually false.

I agree 100%. A fair amount of my professional work is providing reality checks on such theories, as they apply to technology direction. Almost always, the reality is that deals in this space are already so complex that it is a challenge to understand even the real motivations, even for the players involved, and a conspiracy on top of that complexity is beyond the capability of mere mortals.

Having said that, there are "institutional" hidden agendas which do not appear in the public pronouncements around actions that the big players take, but are well known to the participants, even though they are rarely discussed. The DOJ prosecution of MSFT was an attempt, in many cases, to surface this hidden agenda.

That may be the kind of thing Frank is talking about.

>>My nearly 50 years of life experience has taught me quite a few things. First, the body of knowledge that I don't know is a lot larger than the fraction of knowledge that I do have. Second, people have different experiences and observations than I do and that I can and should consider those observations regardless of time spent experiencing life; I don't [or I at least hope not to] demean individuals on the basis of their "limited" experiences. Third, sometimes perceptions [including my own] and conventional wisdom can be quite different than reality.<<

Jim!! very nice post and well though out. You sound like a man with much life's experience and wisdom.

Best of health, Prosperity and long life to you
