I found the poll questions. These were in the Cucamonga Post-Telegraph on 6/31/99:

If George W. Bush were to come to your home and tax you till you whimpered like a stray poodle, would you agree or PROFOUNDLY DISAGREE with his actions?

If George W. Bush were to impose a tax on your erotic thoughts (monitored by a chip implanted in your head), would you PROFOUNDLY DISAGREE with such a horribly intrusive tax policy?

The vast majority (50.5%) of those polled profoundly disagreed with these potential Bush tax policies.

Nice question. ("The government ought to cut taxes even if it means putting off some important things that need to be done.")

I wonder what kind of response we'd get to this one: The government ought to give everyone $100 even if it means they kill half the population.
