I think lesbians are far better tolerated in our society than are male homosexuals, although I'm not quite sure why this is. Look on the national scene: little mention is made of Janet Reno's sexual slant, whereas I would expect quite a furor if we had a male gay Attorney General. This is not to say that male gays have not risen in society despite lingering prejudices. A short list may include:

California Governor Gay Davis

Gay Edgar Hoover

"Pat" Buchanan

Strom Thurmond
