Story by Bill Alpert

Barron's is reporting old news. This article was posted 12-10-98.

Even older news about prices falling.

However, their conclusion is that it will only spur demand.

That the price is declining isn't the news. That the demand is growing and that new capacity is filled immediately upon completion is news. Did the Barron's article mention that?

Who would embark upon a business venture without having done some research into projected revenue, forecasts of
demand and existing or potential competition?

Pioneer Consulting charges $6000 for a research report and analysis about the future market for fiber optics. I am quite sure GBLX spent a lot more than $6000 for market forecasts and your reporter could have gotten the previous information for free.

I thought reporter's were supposed to research their stories.

I also thought they were supposed to report NEWS. Not publish incorrect conclusions based on old and incomplete data.

The best news I heard was on The Street show on Fox. James Cramer announced that the growth of the telecommunication industry was old news and that the SMART investor's were long gone. Looks like a contrarian indicator to me.
