Technical question to suss out whether this is bull or not ->
Topic: Switch Virtual Circuits

Statement to suss out: on Yahoo, a poster states that FVCX has helped out CSCO with SVC's

Questions which will check the veracity of that statement:
1. Does FVCX produce the equip/software to create a SVC?

2. Does CSCO produce such? If not, why not? Do they have the knowledge? If so, why not producing?

3. Is/Has FVCX supplied CSCO with the know how to do so or acted as an outsourcer to produce such for CSCO?

Background info:
1. I have called CSCO last Thurs and haven't had a response yet.
2. SVC's occur in "translate" (vs translational) models for integrating voice & data and one presumes such would occur for video.
3. SVC's occur within "connection-oriented" networks (vs connectionless) - meaning a path from source to destination and as a path is defined it is a "circuit". To establish/"build" a connection or circuit, need the path and info of type of network the info is coming from (ie. signalling - some bits of a data packet provide this info). So, we get into layer 4 here with RSVP/scouting, etc. A SVC can occur in ATM, Frame Relay, IP.

Now, routers are "connectionless" since they just act as nodes between pt A & pt B, but don;t care where the info came from, nor the info required by the end point to receive that data. CSCO is big in the router market, but I've got to think CSCO can create a SVC in an ATM or any other backbone environment.

Any info to help resolve the veracity of the statement on the Yahoo msg board appreciated. Yahoo poster would not provide any further info, though posters on Yahoo were asking for it.

PM me should you feel you do not wish to discuss in public.
