I don't care what race the Taiwanese are. I'd make the same argument if Finland was at issue.

It's just clear that nothing would change in America if tomorrow Formosa would disappear into the sea. They are unimportant to us.

On the other hand, the Kosovans were (and are) fighting a madman whose ultimate goals could destabilize a region whose troubles have led to many wide-scale wars, including World War One. All we would need if things got further out of hand is for Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Freedonia, Greece, Albania, and Turkey to have embarked on yet another War of the Balkans. So, yes, there were excellent reasons why US interests required our limited presence there.

As President Nixon noted, there is one China, not two. This is just basically an internal Chinese vs. Chinese dispute we had no business getting involved in in the first place.

If Taiwan deserves the ultimate sacrifice of American lives, why not Kashmir? They want freedom too, you know.
