. The reality is that both DSL and Cable Modem technology will coexist over the long term, much the same as the argument over "wireline vs wireless" will in the same fashion.

You have hit upon the misconception that persists to my disbelief.
Is it not an either/or scenerio? I suggest that perhaps it will be a multiple pipe entry into the homes as the FCC is trying to foster. I may have cable as my telephone company for videoconferencing with a VOD service from my local RBOC, broadband from GEO and ISP from a LEO service. Everyone is stuck upon a one-pipe world and it is my opinion that they are mistaken. A still active CNN poll has opinion split, 52% for and 48 % against, a single service provider.
