If price fixing was not a concern for oil, copper, and aluminum, why should it be a problem for the gold industry?

Because unlike all other commodities gold is money - and is seen as a threat to paper money - or at least an alternative. Ironicially this is the reason that nobody should bet the farm on gold as we well know from the experience of the 1930's when it became illegal to hold gold in the States. So the producers must always have this in the back of their minds when the consider what can be regarded as an attack on the monetary authorities. They are walking on eggshells. d
