JO: You conclude with MSFT being caught in the snare of reality or words to that effect. Much of your argument couldn't be further from reality. You unfortunately make the error of equating yours and ralph naders versions of reality with reality itself. It appears that the Star CD received in the mail will be a client that works with a server. So a person will have to be married to an ISP's server or the one at the company to get the thing to work. They will be dependent on a little or big brother. MSFT's involvement with NSA is just as MSFT has explained it and the point is trivial. Your concern should be with big gov't. not with big Bill from redmond. MSFT will not be standing still and the spectre of Word being able to talk to ISP's running the Star server side will somehow be worked to MSFT's advantage with competitors crying foul and MSFT saying they were just opening things up. We see the same game being played in the messenger field right now. As far as I can see MSFT has been providing greater value with each succeeding O/S and application version. You probably just don't use all the thngs available to you in the various offerings. This is anything but a zero sum game and MSFT will actually lead the software world into the new markets and services while the rest will follow and complain. JFD
