It would not be a bad strategy for a company like QUALCOMM to set up wireless local loop systems with either wired or wireless connections to the outside whenever there was a major disaster, such as the recent one in Turkey. There's always a need for communication facilities, and a major disaster like an earthquate or hurricane virtually wipes out all voice/data capabilities. This would accelerate the market for a type of phone that QUALCOMM management has always believed will generate more business than pure cellular.
