This ranks right up there with the worst post I have ever seen. "the ultimate act of slavery"....."consequence"? WHAT? .. you make motherhood(AND fatherhood) an act of slavery?? That is as racist a remark as I have ever seen and you know it. "Consequences" of pregnancy up against the "benefits" of abortion. How much more of a word play can you actually try to put over on us? "the observance of an ill-proven moral duty to count the embryo as alive)" ok, hotshot, tell me why the moral duty to protect the embryo is any less important than protecting your life? If you value life so little why are you here? of "erring on the side of the priests" where did you get this? I am not a priest, and I also do not err when I choose to try to protect life. The ERR comes from destruction of life. You know as well as I that it is a very big MINORITY of any one that uses abortion as a safety to the mother issue. It is now used to select sex, for birth control, and because this nation(and others) have become as selfish a bunch of ******' as I have ever seen. And the tired old chant about limiting (or even interdicting!)sexual activity is as anti-life as it comes. The Puritanical tradition is alive and well in the USA, and it is a spiritual vampire. It will not die, and it corrupts everything it touches. As anti God statement as I have ever seen , and our country was not founded on that premise. If you choose to be your own god, fine, you sure that right because the men that founded this country made sure you Do have that right... men by the way that by and large believed in one God. And I am proud the "Puritanical tradition" is alive and well...It is a moral position. TELL ME ANY GOOD THAT HAS COME FROM ANY OTHER POSITION?????????? You are why I taught my children to love everyone but HATE even the clothes even stained by sin... I appreciated your thoughtful post, Lather. I have expressed myself on this subject all I have the energy to, so I won't join the argument yet again. But I will post a statistic. I think it's an important one, because desperate women will get abortions whether they do it in sterile clinics or on kitchen tables. Apologies for the age of the statistics. I'm sure there's a way to get the updated stats, but I suspect that though the specific numbers would be different, the ratios would be about the same. I found this in the Sept/Oct 1989 issue of Hippocrates magazine.
