Could be, Michael. But your perception of Bill Clinton as a "liberal" is challengeable. After all, he was the mover & shaker in the movement of the "New Democrats," a movement that specifically repudiated traditional Democratic liberalism, and managed to take over the leadership of the party on the strength of that. Most traditional liberal Democrats have argued all along that Clinton's politics, as distinct from his rhetoric, have actually been right-of-center.

I voted for him -- reluctantly -- in 1992. But in 1996 -- this was before the scandal broke, remember? -- I did NOT vote for him, having concluded that he was, basically, a fraud. Yet I am generally a "liberal" (in my own definition, which probably is not yours).
