RE <<<If no, then they are just smoke.>>>

Speaking of smoke....and mirrors. According to one article, at intc's forum in Palm Springs (I wonder if CB went flyfishing and if they had to drop him in by helicopter like they did when he went fishing in the Russian tundra), all the intc reps talked about was the skipced.....it became this big thing....in fact, it sounded kind of like a launch . Later I read that intc may give out the specs in January to some of the oems. But then I read that there would be no chips until June, 2000. And still later I read about skipced in an article in Sharkey's. Sharkey's said that the chip had 'a debut' at the intc forum. So it wasn't a launch; really it was just an announcement.

From reading the intc long postings on this thread, it was my understanding that only AMD announces a chip but doesn't ship in volume for two months. Is this not what intc is doing re the skipced? Or is this something different.....an intc thing that an AMD long could not possibly understand?

I am sure engels or someone will explain it.
