I do not know how acquainted you are with these sorts of houses, but my father's is 3000 square feet, much of which is tied up in the basement. The cathedral ceiling in the "family room" cuts off the second floor. Although the family room is spacious, the living room is a bit cramped, and is rarely used, and the den and library are smallish. The dining room is pretty good, and the foyer is nice enough, but the kitchen and breakfast room together are not much bigger than my large kitchen. There is a sense of the proportions generally being a bit off. Plus, only my father and stepmother live there, with an occasional visit from my grandmother, so they have a couple of bedrooms that are almost never used. It is very impractical for two people, especially since they do not do a lot of entertaining.....
