Suggest you all read what I just wrote about the PGMs ie Platinums connections to FUEL CELL TECH ( Yeah- you know me as 6TECHs Chucka of late not think about the Stealth Boomers made of Nano-Fibres Compositites in the last decades with-outof the residue carbons from the metalitic reactions of hot exhaust gasses ala catylitic converters from cars with the carbon forms of fibres over the stellie beads in that contraption) You see they need the steel coated with Platinums and they have found a new source of POTENTIAL mining in the Birch Mountain Claim Permits that total over 2 million acres and we are above the trends of 2 miles deep PGMs mine just south of them at the famous occurance in Montana yet they are not as much on the surface as we are and when economies of scale are eventually prooved up, we just might be a surprise with our AT SURFACE DEPOSIT: READ ..Please at S.I.:

PS - RE : Canmine news:
CANMINE TO RESUME BINCO NICKEL EXPLORATION

LONDON, ONTARIO--

Canmine Resources Corporation (TSE Symbol: CMR) will immediately
resume nickel exploration on the BINCO Nickel Project, located
northeast of the Thompson Nickel Belt in Manitoba. This belt is
one of the largest nickel producing regions in the world.
Canmine's decision is based on a number of positive developments
for the project, illustrating its world-class potential for major
new nickel discoveries. As well, nickel prices are showing a
strong resurgence as economic recoveries continue in Asia, Europe
and South America, and global demand for nickel increases (nickel
prices are up to $US2.90 per pound from a 1998 low of about
$US1.74 per pound).

Significantly, the geologic map of Manitoba and Canada is now in
the process of

Birch Mountain had a PR update last week, the Government of Manitoba with thei Dept of Mines and Energy had a nice drill program done thsi summer on the LIMESTONES that extand into Manatoba under the Permits that BMD has over there ...so there are some Salton Brine Model Hot Spots over there that appear to warrant exploration under the Model they seek targets with, IMHO:
PPM fan here also- Bet on the PGMs...not the bay. The brines!
So, is this near you folks? Manitoba!

<<..This spring, Dawson Bay Minerals Inc. was awarded two new Special Exploration Permits in the vicinity of Dawson Bay, Manitoba, totaling 69,100 hectares (170,700 acres).

In June, Dawson Bay Minerals Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Manitoba Energy and Mines to cost share the driling of two prospective anomalies on the Westgate Block. Drilling on the property commenced at the end of July and was completed in early August. The first hole was drilled 38 m (125 ft) into glacial overburden and highly disturbed Cretaceous shale, and was abandoned in unconsolidated sand. The second hole successfully penetrated 26 m (85 ft) into the Devonian section, attaining a total depth of 108 m (357 ft). The core is stored at the Manitoba Energy and Mines Core Storage Facility in Winnipeg and will be logged and sampled in September, 1999.

One can only assume Ni would experience somewhat of the same pattern initially, however as new Ni deposits develope (laterites, VB, Werner?? etc.) supply/demand may stabilise. When, at what price is anyones guess at this time, but I firmly believe this will happen at much higher prices than we are seeing today.

The supply side of PGE may not stabilised as easily since no new primary PGE deposits are sitting in the wings. Therefore the upswing in PGE prices may last longer or may rise quicker on a percentage basis as a result.

My only concern would be over production from say Noril'sk or from the Merensky Reef. Also a threat would be other deposits coming on stream such as Polymet's Dunka Road deposit which is possibly the largest (+800 million tonnes grading .43% Cu, .11% Ni and .55g/t PGE) undeveloped viable polymetallic deposits in the world if Ni, Cu and PGE prices rise to much. Probably others. Who knows?
