>>Incidentally, I have the 9th (Toscanini) on LPs and intend to put it on my computer, either .mp3 or .wav.
Second thought, it might be better to purchase it on CD.<<

I have put off buying any more CD's for the past couple of months now. DVD-Audio units are finally set to be introduced for this coming Christmas Season. We're talking about 6 discrete channels of 96k/24 bit sound here (one is a dedicated Subwoofer channel!). You can bet that the first DVD-Audio disks will be from the Classics- Beeth 5th, 9th, Dvorak's New World, Strav's Rite of Spring, etc.

Should sound breathtaking compared to CD's 2 channels of 44.1k/16 bit sound. (24 bit audio offers about 10 times the headroom of 16 bit).

I know that Panasonic and Toshiba have already introduced their models for release in November for around $1000. Remember when CD players were $1000 back in 1985? They dropped in price very quickly. I expect the same for DVD-Audio.
