Definitely TRUCE! Thank you, Joan. I look forward to many stimulating and enjoyable agreements and disagreements with you.

Although lacking your specific academic credentials, I believe there is much common ground in our professional backgrounds and experiences that might spark interesting talk. Then again, some such talk might require a more secure comm link than afforded by SI.

I will be interested in your reports on Dagestan. Beyond specifics of the immediate conflict, I'm inclined to suspect there are serious balance of power issues involving Russia, China and emerging Islamic statism. Also, many in the Kremlin no doubt are still smarting badly from apparent outcome of the "Great Game" and are not above deeply weird and fairly spectacular action in the area.

Clinton and his foreign policy crew better be on their toes when the west cuts off Russia's "allowance."
