Felix - <Paul, I was in CompUSA today and spoke with 2 sales people about PIII, Celerons, K-6's, and Cyrix CPU's. I was told that the majority of machines sold have the PIII and Celerons and the retail buyers prefer the Intel brand for reliability, quality and performance. I questioned the K-6 and was told that 2 out of 5 sold are returned because of problems with "freeze ups" and they indicate the machines overheat. The salespeople suggested avoiding the K-6 because of the problems and returns and customer disatisfaction. It is obvious that the retail over the counter buyers prefer Intel.>

This is cool!

FWIW, I clicked on a banner ad by Acer(??) yesterday on CNET.com for a system with an Intel MPU. It was the first time I had ever seen a "Sold Out" message from a direct seller. Things look to be even better than I thought.

May I suggest you re-post this on the AMD thread ?

You'll "enjoy" the verbal abuse you get from the AMDroids.

Felix, From what I can see the staff at CompUSA lack all computer knowledge and routinely come out with negative comments about whatever is not in stock as if it was their managers decision not to have it instead of bad inventory controls. My experience with AMD and Intel CPUs is that they are both solid performers.
I have seen bad runs of mobos(pc chips was notorious) that had trouble with both AMD and Intel in the days when the CPUs were pin for pin the same but I have never seen a mobo that changing from AMD to Intel or vice versa showed one that ran and one that failed. Now mobos are CPU determined and you cannot make a dual brand mobo(celeron=P-II/III).
In addition in retail you find that 50-60% of returns are in full working order, but the people have returned for budgetary reasons.
