QuietWon- re:SVCs and ATM...

Hi QuietWon,

This is good stuff. I did not know that switched circuits were still that popular. Although it is the only way to go as you allude to when you can't tolerate the latency of IP. At least it is cheaper than private dedicated circuits which I imagine are still around too.

If FVCX was supplying Cisco with this equipment, and it is a growing market like layer 3/4 switching and ATM switching, then I would eye FVCX as a target. I don't know enough to make that determination, although I will put it on my list to research. SVCs just don't have a lot of visibility compared to IP and wireless and mobile aspects of networking.

The bursty demands of networking have made IP a nice fit. If the frames/second video needs is comprimised by IP, then IP will be inadequate. I understand an enormous amount of bandwidth is scheduled to come online in the next few years so I would hope this would support this trend.

Just my opinion.

Jon :)
