Was there any doubt?

I wasn't thinking about the one time exclusion on cap gains on the first 500 large on a home and I doubt many McMansion owners are playing that game. That could change soon.

Historically, stocks have done slightly better than real estate, and much better than everything else. Moreover, the boom years are probably behind the real estate market, and there is a liquidity problem as well. You are smart to forget the "house as investment" argument, to find something suitable, and to invest the rest in the stock market.....
