Re: Here we go!

Well, I would prefer you both discuss this publicly rather than through PM, as I am interested, and suspect a few more people are also. Thanks.

O.K.! :-)

Here's topic A: metro DWDM, the next step in from optical long distance networks. Metro optical network growth, according to Pioneer Consulting, will be driven by three actors:

ILECs expanding their interoffice fiber networks, CLECs expanding their metro access and transport networks, and major ISPs and IXCs expanding the capacity and flexibility of their metro access rings.

This press release gives a high-altitude perspective on metro optical networks:

My understanding is that Cerent brings Cisco great cross-connection products, but that Cisco needs more to deliver a complete metro core solution. If that's the case, who else will come into Cisco's cross hairs?

P.

Proton, James,

Welcome aboard ! I started this thread so long ago that I had forgotten all about it. Your posts may have come at an auspicious time, as I have some new stocks to add to the list. One, Lumenon (OTC/BB:LUMM) I recently bought a small position in. There is an excellent thread here on SI for this stock. The technology seems truly extraordinary. It is also beyond my ability to really evaluate, but CISCO seems pretty interested in the company, and that's good enough for me. The other is GAEO (not to be confused with GALT). Galeleo has new management, new product focus, and has run up recently on news of sales of DWDM Optical Filters. I would welcome your opinions on this one especially as I am undecided. I like the way my I'm positioned now and would have to sell something I like to make room in my portfolio for GAEO. The recent star in DWDM, as I'm sure you are aware, is Harmonic (HLIT), which has had a spectacular run this year. They have an innovative DWDM solution for coax cable featuring "DWDM to the node" in the return path in CATV systems, and have benefited from AT&T's purchase of TCI. T is their biggest customer and sales to T are expected to increase.

Look forward to hearing from you.
