ynot, I need to think about your list, before I can make a suggestion for only one stock long or short. PMCS can only grow at a maximum of 50 percent due to a shortage of experienced personnal. NT is on a row and is an under appreciated telecom play due to its Canadian hertiage. Alternative suggestions: Undervalued telecom plays: ALA, DY Long/Short: CYMI, RMBS, PHTN I will try to get back to you later in the week. ********************************* Other thoughts MARKET INDICES FROM AROUND THE WORLD FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1999 CLOSE CHANGE DAILY WTD MTD YTD INDEX UNITED STATES MARKETS DOW JONES 11078 235* 2.2% -0.1% 2% 21% NASDAQ 2843 108 4.0% 3.0% 4% 30% S&P 500 1357 38 2.9% 0.7% 3% 10% RUSSELL 2000 434 7 1.6% 0.4% 2% 3% GOLDMAN SACHS TECH 426 27 6.8% 0.8% 7% N/A 30 YR TREASURY BONDS 6.02%, down 12 basis points +4bp -4bp +92bp $$$$$ HEARD ON THE STREET - SAFEGUARD WAY UNDERVALUED COMMENT: The firm has been around since 1953. Their first big hit was Novell and has focused on Information Technology since the early 1980s,when they started nurturing companies and spinning them off in rights offerings. Cambridge Technology and Sanchez Computer have been home runs. And now it has just offered Internet Capital Group (ICGE), which came out at $12 and is now $83, a month later. It has pieces of 11 public companies and about 30 privates ones. It appears that the public firms are worth about $60 a share but Safeguard Scientifics (SFE) trades for $68. So you're getting all of its private companies for $8. If the Dow is heading to 12,000 by end of year, we can see Safeguard Scientifics at $100 and $150 as the Dow crosses 13,000. We're not blowing smoke here. There are times when things are WAY undervalued on Wall Street and here is one of those situations. Not convinced?
