Here is an interesting article with a different story to tell. BTW, Osicom actually has the only significant sales in Metro, but the stock is incredibly volatile and constantly under short attack, perhaps with good reason. By far the safer play would be to buy the component manufacturers such as JDSU and SDLI. Also AMCC, though not primarily a DWDM company, makes some IC's for use in DWDM systems. JDSU, SDLI, and AMCC have been so hot that they may be due for a correction. I think they are excellent long term though. Anyway, here is the link to the article about Metro DWDM

Separate from it's Optical Access subsidiary, MRVC also owns 60% of New Access Communications, which has a significant technology breakthrough in Metro DWDM price/performance that uses only one wavelength per node (won the show grand prize at SuperComm DC '99 in January), and it's MetroFusion product line is just now coming out of Beta - that's where.
