Hi Lather, sorry if I am putting my nose where it doesn't belong, but according to official Catholic dogma, a fertilized egg is a child. Life begins at conception. This isn't a liberal or conservative idea, it's a Catholic idea. Other religions may agree, I don't know. With respect to implantation, that's usually out of the mother's hands, so it's not "murder" if the egg naturally doesn't implant.

I, personally, believe that human "life" begins when brain function begins, be it ever so rudimentary. But this isn't something I'd impose on others.

I disagree. I don't care what a hardliner defines as alive, if we're going to play god and decide whether or not an embryo will have the chance to live, we may as well play god with whatever we wish whenever we wish. Do you enjoy the life you've lived so far? You never would have known it if your parents had decided they didn't want to have you. No matter what you say, abortion takes that opportunity away intentionally, not by miscarriage.
