For people using @Home, you don't have to install the browser that they recommend or say you have to have installed. You can install whatever browser you want, then call them up and ask for the URL so you can access member services. Once they give you the URL, bookmark it.

You may want to get the new upgrade for Win98:

Microsoft® Windows 98 Second Edition Updates
https://order4.microsoft.upgrade.com/scripts/startwin98se1.asp
$19.95 plus $5.00 S&H per unit US($34.95 plus $7.50 CDN)

Note:
That upgrade is for Win98 users, if you use Win95, you can buy the newest version of Win98 at your retailer, Win98 Second Edition.

It comes with IE5, which is a better browser than 4. However I use Netscape 4.61.

BTW
The "smooth" effect of the font is in your Display Property / Effects folder. Right click on the desktop and select the EFFECTS tab, then select smooth edges of screen fonts.
