Deloitte & Touche Announces Ranking of Fastest-Growing Technology Companies in Orange County, San Diego
San Diego-Based Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. Tops List With Five-Year Revenue Growth of 9,925 Percent
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1999-- The fastest-growing technology companies in the region were recognized by Deloitte & Touche LLP at an awards banquet held September 9 at the Marriott's Laguna Cliffs Resort in Dana Point. Called the "1999 Orange Coast Technology Fast 50," the annual awards program ranks technology companies located in Orange and San Diego counties by revenue growth over a five year period.

Of the 50 companies honored this year, 28 were based in San Diego. The fastest growing company overall was Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc., with a five-year revenue growth of 9,925 percent. The company develops therapeutics for the treatment of diseases and disorders of the central nervous and immune systems, including anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's disease, obesity, and multiple sclerosis.

"Being named a Fast 50 winner is a testament to each company's leadership and its ability to not only have the right solution at the right moment, but also the vision that allows growth over five years," said Bob Weaver, partner, San Diego Technology Group, Deloitte & Touche. "We congratulate these companies for their commitment to the technology industry, and for delivering on the promise of market longevity."

To be considered for the Fast 50 status, companies must produce a technology, manufacture a technology-related product, be technology intensive or use unique technology in problem-solving, and devote a high percentage of effort to research and development of technology. Additionally, companies must have been in business for a minimum of five years with 1994 revenues of at least $50,000.

The 1999 Orange Coast Technology Fast 50 program is presented by Deloitte & Touche and sponsored by A.G. Edwards & Sons, Bowne of Irvine, Brobeck Phleger & Harrison LLP, Imperial Bank, Marsh, Inc., and the Orange County NewsChannel, in association with the American Electronics Association, Biocom, California Manufacturing Technology Center, and the Life Science Industry Council.
