Let's not forget all the elderly who invested their retirement money in AZNT because of their AIDS cream, cure for baldness, chewing gum that obviates brushing, revolutionary new non-caloric sweetener that is safe for diabetics, and phytogenic products that cure dozens of other ailments. Sure we know none of that is "as advertised", but it certainly made for a good sales pitch. Had these people actually been allowed to sell, they would have perhaps made 50% on their investment selling to the greater fool. Alas, CEO Mike Sylver wouldn't let them. Even worse, he tricked them into turning over their certs so even had they sued they would be without proper proof of ownership.

Where did that money go? Did it go towards paying for Sylver's leased Jaguar? His trips to Manaus? All those fancy dinners out with Kricfalusi? The tables in Vegas? And now that he may have lost it all -- money that apparently came in illicit ways at the expense of others -- are we supposed to feel sorry for the guy? What about all those other people over the past ten years the records show Sylver stiffed -- when he apparently did have money?

Sylver is a millionaire on paper. He could at a moment's notice sell millions of shares for pennies and loan himself the money. If the rumors are correct he even has gullible shareholders who will lend him money. He sends out public letters telling people how now is an outstanding time to be part of AZNT yet privately tells the court that he's close to bankruptcy. He has no morals.

Sure I have compassion for the fact Sylver may be living off handouts. Heck, I also have compassion for people who are sitting in jail, shut off from society and forced to stare at the walls all day. But, I have far more compassion for the victims-- the innocent people who fell pray to the scoundrels. These are the people who should be at the forefront of our discussion-- utmost in our prayers. And after we are finished praying about compassion, we should start asking for justice.
